MusicMonday is gearing up for Treefort Music Fest 2020! Next few weeks we will be focusing bands that will be playing during the festival. Up first, MESSIMER
The band played their first show back in January of 2018! Before that Luke Breslin-Messimer (Vocals/Guitar) lived in Portland and was playing in a band back in 2016. Luke’s band happened to be playing a wedding that Reggie Mace (Bass/Backing Vocals) was a guest at. Reggie mentioned to Luke that Boise was a great place to live and they connected on a musician level (also being a little weird and a cool person). “Fast forward 9 months, my wife and I decided to move to Boise. Reggie was the only person I knew here, so I messaged him on Facebook and we started talking about putting a band together for these songs I had written” Luke added. He soon booked them an extremely premature show and they scrambled to find a drummer. Luckily Reggie’s younger cousin Dalton Mace is “an all-around cool human” and played the drums. All of 2018 the band played as a 3-piece until they found their “golden goat” in Josh Lewis. “He's sexy AF and plays guitar better than any of us, so since Treefort of this year, we've had him as our 4th” Luke concluded.
The band’s name is derived, you guest it, from Luke’s last name: Messimer. Originally the band went by his full name. “….but after realizing that we had become more of a band and were actually writing together, a band name made more sense. In order to not have to make all new social accounts or lose the following we had gained; we decided to drop the "Luke" and go as MESSIMER.” The band said.
Each band member has different tastes in music, but they see eye-to-eye on the vision for what the band brings to the local scene. Each band member brings in their musical influences and strengths to equal the 60’s inspired indie/rock sound. The band’s sound is unique with a mix of Weezer, The Beatles and Jack White all mixed in!
Much Like their unique sound the band draws influence from their unique experiences as people. The band works hard to put their soul into their music drawing from fuck ups, lies, an endless list monikers and failed attempts, alcoholism, and hard life lessons. “Music should be, and often is, personal. Or at least good music is. I never sit down intending to write anything. It always comes out in a feeling. Feelings are personal, so that tends to come out in the songs.” Luke said.
This is a local band that we highly recommend you check out! You have a chance to see Messimer during the 2020 Treefort festival coming up end of March! The band also has some big announcements coming up early February so make sure to follow their Facebook page!
