Basement

MusicMondays208 is excited to jump into the fantastic minds behind Idaho’s premiere rapcore band, basement!

Starting back in 1998 Basement when a couple “hoodlums” from the same neighborhood that needed a more healthy outlet other than making trouble. “Basement reminds me of the lower tone of our songs. But the name was what it was and rolled of the tongue and fit. I feel Basement brings a much needed palette cleanse now the same as we did in 98’ to the city. Metal scene in Boise is amazing and I think people have fun mixing us in with different genres of metal.” The band consists of some truly amazing musicians with Steve W. Bade on Bass, Bear Benson vocals, Jeffro Hoskins II vocals, Mychal Jenkins on drums and @Bo Wahl on guitar.

Basement is a fantastically unique band that blends metal and rap seamlessly. As Jeffro describes it “basement is what you get if NWA and helmet made a baby while sepultura smoked cigarettes in a corner and watched.” Truly this band is absolutely fantastic to watch as Jeffro and Bear bounce back and forth between melting face metal vocals and flowing rap lyrics. The band’s new song Enemy is a fantastic ride down a roller coaster of long drawn out roaring from Bear to uphill climbs with Jeffro’s smooth lyrics. The instrumentals of Enemy can only be achieved by the extremely talented Bo, Mychal and Steve who are able to mix slow paced metal riffs with methodical drums.

The band makes sure that their music hits home with not only their audience but with themselves. Jeffro stated, “There are many personal aspects in my lyrics as well as completely fabricated madness. I look back at songs written while I was young and it horrifies me that my friends and I got into so much trouble selling drugs and getting into trouble just for the fun of it. In the 90s many parents discovered the convenience of divorce so we were left to our teenage angst to keep us entertained. But then you will hear lines in songs about how hard it is to rhyme the word AGAIN or sports in 1986. I picture Basement as rapcore mixed with 1980s wrestling. Basement has no limits. There is no roof on this machine.”
